Vipers’ Coach Praises Team’s Maturity Ahead of Title-Defining Clash with KCCA

Vipers SC head coach Fred Muhumuza has lauded his squad’s maturity and patience following their 2-0 victory over URA, emphasizing the importance of experience in the title race.

Speaking after the win at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, Muhumuza acknowledged the difficulty of starting the second round, describing the early fixtures as “tricky” but expressing confidence in his players’ ability to handle the pressure.

“Starting the second round is very hard. The first games are quite tricky, but the boys know what’s at stake. They’re mature enough and have the experience in the league. So, it’s no longer a marathon but a sprint,” Muhumuza said.

Vipers had to remain patient against a resilient URA side before second-half goals from Allan Okello and Enock Luyima secured all three points.

Muhumuza credited his players’ composure and persistence in breaking down their opponents.

“We had to stay patient in the game and keep creating chances, and eventually, it paid off,” he added.

With the victory, Vipers extended their lead at the top of the Uganda Premier League table, setting up a potential title-defining showdown against KCCA on Sunday, February 16.

A win at Lugogo would stretch their lead over KCCA to 13 points, all but ending their rivals’ title hopes.

Muhumuza’s side heads into the clash in top form, with Okello continuing his impressive goal-scoring run and new signing Kenneth Kimera making an immediate impact off the bench.

However, they will need to be at their best against a desperate KCCA side fighting to stay in contention.

The highly anticipated encounter at Lugogo could prove decisive in shaping the title race, with Vipers looking to take a significant step toward reclaiming the league crown.
