Antony’s future at Manchester United remains uncertain despite his impressive form on loan at Real Betis, according to his agent, Junior Pedroso.
The Brazilian winger, who joined United from Ajax for a hefty £86 million in 2022, has rediscovered his form in Spain after struggling to make an impact at Old Trafford.
After falling out of favor with United manager Ruben Amorim, Antony joined Betis on loan in January. His loan spell has been a stark contrast to his time in Manchester, where he managed just five Premier League goals in 62 appearances.
In just three games for Betis, Antony has already scored twice, exceeding his goal tally from 14 appearances for United this season.
This resurgence has sparked questions about his potential return to Manchester United. Pedroso acknowledged the fluidity of the situation, stating to GiveMeSport, “I believe that football is very dynamic. There are no long-term plans to be made. There may still be a few more chapters in his story with Manchester United, or there may not be. This will depend on many factors involving decisions by the club and him in the near future.”
While Antony is reportedly happy at Betis, Pedroso confirmed that there is no option to buy clause in his loan contract, meaning he is technically a Manchester United player from July.
He also dispelled rumors of a strained relationship between Antony and Amorim, explaining that the loan move was a mutual decision to help the player regain his form.
However, the situation is further complicated by reports that Manchester United may have a recall clause in Antony’s contract.
While the specifics of such a clause remain undisclosed, standard loan rules stipulate a minimum 28-day waiting period before a player can be recalled. This means United would have to wait until at least February 22nd to bring him back.
The possibility of a recall comes amidst an injury crisis at Manchester United, with star winger Amad Diallo recently ruled out for the remainder of the season.
This situation could prompt Amorim to reconsider allowing Antony’s departure, especially given his improved performances.
The Manchester Evening News has reported that it’s unclear if United have a recall clause, adding to the uncertainty surrounding the player’s immediate future.
