Crested Cranes and Kampala Queens player Zaina Nandede has embraced her transition from a right winger to a right-back at the national level, expressing confidence in her adaptability and ability to perform in different roles.
Despite featuring as an attacking winger for Kampala Queens in the domestic league, Nandede has smoothly adjusted to a defensive role with the Crested Cranes under head coach Sheryl Botes.
The switch, she says, has not been difficult since she continues to operate on the right flank.
“I feel comfortable playing in different positions on the pitch, whether as a forward at my club or as a defender for the national team. It wasn’t difficult for me to adapt when the coach changed my position because it’s the same wing (right). I have steadily adjusted, and it’s only a matter of knowing when to do what in each role,” Nandede stated.
Since taking up the right-back role, Nandede has featured in four international friendly matches, playing twice against the Democratic Republic of Congo and twice against Algeria.
Her performances have been impressive, further strengthening her case as a versatile option for the national team.
Uganda is currently gearing up for their WAFCON 2026 Qualifiers campaign, with a first-round fixture against Ethiopia on the horizon.
As preparations intensify, Nandede’s ability to adapt could prove crucial in the team’s defensive setup.
