KCCA head coach Abdallah Mubiru has called on his players to rise to the occasion as they prepare for a crucial Uganda Premier League showdown against table-toppers Vipers SC on Sunday night at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.
Speaking ahead of the high-stakes clash, Mubiru acknowledged the team’s recent struggles but expressed confidence that their fortunes would soon change.
He emphasized that his squad is mentally prepared and eager to compete, despite the setbacks they have faced.
“We are still recovering from the previous game, but our physios are making sure the players are in perfect shape ahead of the game against Vipers SC,” Mubiru stated. “The players are ready mentally and are eager to compete. The results might not be coming now, but we will soon get it right. We are hopeful it will happen soon.”
KCCA head into the match on the back of a disappointing 1-0 loss to NEC FC, which left them 13 points adrift of Vipers. Their biggest concern has been inefficiency in front of goal, something Mubiru says they have been addressing in training.
“We have been working on our finishing in training. We get the chances in games, but we have not been converting them; we are hopeful the players will get it right,” he added.
The Kasasiro Boys will have to navigate the fixture without several key players, including Steven Munguchi, Haruna Ssebaduka, Peter Magambo, Usama Arafat, Julius Poloto, and Muhamud, all sidelined due to injuries. Additionally, the team is dealing with an emotional blow following the passing of Emmanuel Anyama’s mother.
“We sympathize with Emmanuel Anyama, who lost his mother, and we pray that God comforts his family during this trying time,” Mubiru said.
Despite the challenges, KCCA will welcome back right-back Gavin Kizito, who returns after serving a one-match suspension.
His presence will be a boost for a squad in dire need of defensive stability against a Vipers side that boasts the league’s best goal difference and the in-form Allan Okello.
With KCCA’s title hopes hanging by a thread, Sunday’s match could determine whether they still have a say in the championship race or if Vipers tighten their grip on a seventh league crown. Kickoff is set for 7pm at Lugogo.
