Kenya: Ugandan Goalkeeper Ssetuba Vows to Deliver for AFC Leopards Fans

AFC Leopards have officially unveiled Ugandan goalkeeper James Cleo Ssetuba as their latest acquisition, securing his services on a two-year contract.

The 28-year-old shot-stopper joins from Kakamega Homeboyz, where his impressive performances, including six clean sheets this season, garnered attention from multiple clubs across East Africa.

Born in Entebbe, Uganda, Ssetuba’s football career has been marked by stints with several clubs in the region.

In Uganda, he featured for Soltilo Bright Stars, URA FC, Nyamityobora FC, and Wakiso Giants. Seeking broader horizons, he moved to Tanzania, playing for Biashara Mara United FC, Mbeya City, and Ihefu FC, before making his mark in the Kenyan Premier League with Kakamega Homeboyz.

Ssetuba’s consistent form did not go unnoticed. Reports indicate that top Kenyan clubs, including Gor Mahia and Bandari, as well as Tanzania’s Azam FC and Uganda’s Gaddafi FC and Express FC, expressed interest in acquiring his talents.

Despite the competition, AFC Leopards successfully secured Ssetuba’s signature.

The club’s rich history and passionate fanbase played a pivotal role in his decision.

Upon his unveiling, Ssetuba shared his enthusiasm saying, “I am happy to have finally made this move. I feel good and relieved to join such a big and historical team. It is a privilege to be here because it is a dream for any player to get such an opportunity.”

He also acknowledged the motivating presence of the supporters.

“I love the way they support the team. They travel around with the team, and it’s a big motivation for us to do better,” he added.

Assigned the number 28 jersey, Ssetuba aims to fortify AFC Leopards’ defense and contribute to the club’s pursuit of the league title.

His arrival is expected to intensify competition among the goalkeeping ranks, providing the team with enhanced options between the posts.
