KCCA’s title ambitions have come under scrutiny from fans following a poor run of form that has seen the club win just one of its last 10 Uganda Premier League matches.
Their latest setbacks; a 1-0 loss to NEC on Thursday and a 2-0 defeat to Vipers on Sunday, have left them 16 points behind the league leaders, raising questions about whether their title race is over.
NBS Sport took the debate to X (formerly known as Twitter), where fans shared contrasting opinions on whether KCCA can still challenge for the championship.
While some believe the club’s hopes are all but finished, others insist that football remains unpredictable.
Danny Nyeko (@DNyeko), a communications specialist, argued that KCCA’s failure to strengthen key areas in the January transfer window has cost them dearly.
“There is no chance for KCCA to be in the UPL title race since they are 16 points behind Vipers. In the January window, they needed players where they were short, like a focal person,” Nyeko said.
KCCA made only one major signing in January, bringing in Umar Lutalo from Kitara, a move some fans believe was insufficient to address their weaknesses.
Another fan, Kylian (@AKylian), pointed to poor decision-making in the final third and a lack of defensive intensity as reasons for the club’s struggles, and noted that KCCA must win all their remaining games to keep their title hopes alive, a scenario he deemed highly improbable.
“The decision-making in the final third is costing KCCA. Being lethargic when defending is also an issue.” Kylian said.
“KCCA needs to win almost all the remaining 13 games to stand any chance of clinching the title. I believe in Abdallah Mubiru, but unfortunately, the title is beyond reach,” he added.
Myke Boston (@bostonmicheall) also dismissed KCCA’s chances, emphasizing their recent struggles against fellow title contenders.
“Basing on the last two games, KCCA are done. It’s Vipers to keep up and NEC to recover,” he noted.
Jonathans (@AmNathan25) went even further, suggesting that KCCA should not even be in the title conversation.
“It’s now a misconception to have KCCA FC in any sentence regarding title contention. Let them try again next season,” he stated.
However, some fans refused to write off the 13-time champions, arguing that anything is possible in football if they regain their form.
“Maybe if they get their act together ASAP,” said Wejuli Edwin (@123wejuli).
Shafik Finn (@FinnShafik78577) added, “Everything is possible with football.”
KCCA will have a chance to respond on the pitch when they face Maroons at Luzira Prisons Grounds on March 2 before hosting bottom-placed Mbale Heroes at the MTN Omondi Stadium on March 8.
Whether they can mount an unlikely comeback remains to be seen, but for now, the debate among fans continues.
