Crested Cranes Receive Safeguarding Training Ahead of WAFCON Qualifier

The Uganda Senior Women’s National Team, the Crested Cranes, took part in a crucial safeguarding session on Monday February 17 as part of their preparations for the upcoming WAFCON Qualifier against Ethiopia.

The session, held at Cranes Paradise Hotel in Kisaasi, was led by FUFA Safeguarding Officer Sarah Birungi and aimed at equipping players with essential knowledge on player welfare and protection.

With the first leg of the qualifier set for Friday, February 21, at Hamz Stadium in Nakivubo, FUFA is ensuring that the players are not only physically ready but also well-informed about their rights and responsibilities on and off the pitch.

The session covered key safeguarding principles, including recognizing and reporting misconduct, maintaining professional boundaries, and ensuring a safe team environment.

FUFA say that this is part of their commitment to fostering a safe and supportive atmosphere for women’s football in Uganda.

The initiative is especially important as the Crested Cranes prepare for a high-stakes encounter against Ethiopia, with the team looking to secure a strong result in the first leg.

With training sessions intensifying and team morale high, head coach Sheryl Botes and her squad remain focused on making a strong start in their WAFCON qualifying campaign.

Head coach Sheryl Botes will address the media with key team updates on Thursday 20th February.
