Lady Rugby Cranes Complete Key Coaching Course Ahead of HSBC Sevens Challenger

The Lady Rugby Cranes took a significant step in their preparations for the upcoming HSBC Sevens Challenger 2025 by completing a World Rugby Level 1 Sevens Coaching Course over the weekend of February 15-16.

The training, held under the guidance of new High-Performance Consultant Bronson Weir and World Rugby educator Helen Buteme, focused on key aspects of sevens rugby, including skill development and team dynamics.

Andrew Owor, a World Rugby Trainer, was also present to oversee the course.

With less than two weeks to go until the first leg of the Challenger Series in Cape Town on March 1-2, the Ugandan women’s team is sharpening its technical and tactical approach ahead of a tough Pool C draw against Belgium and Colombia.

The additional coaching knowledge gained from the course is expected to bolster the team’s preparation as they aim for a strong start in the tournament.

The HSBC Sevens Challenger is a key pathway for teams striving for promotion to the elite HSBC SVNS circuit.

Uganda’s men’s and women’s teams will compete alongside 12 other nations, with the top eight teams after the Cape Town rounds advancing to the final stage in Krakow, Poland, on April 11-12.

From there, the best four teams will earn a chance to fight for HSBC SVNS promotion in the Play-Off tournament in Los Angeles on May 3-4.

The final Lady Rugby Cranes squad for the Challenger Series in South Africa is set to be unveiled by Friday February 21.
