KCCA kept their Uganda Cup hopes alive with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Kuluva Rainbow at the Hospital View Arena in Arua, securing their place in the round of 16.

Derrick Nsibambi was the hero for the ten-time Uganda Cup winners, scoring twice in the opening seven minutes to put the Kasasiro Boys in control.

The forward opened the scoring just two minutes in, rising highest to head home a pinpoint cross from Saidi Mayanja.

He then doubled KCCA’s advantage five minutes later, once again nodding in a well-delivered ball from Mayanja.

Despite dominating the first half, KCCA faced a nervy finish after Brian Kubo pulled one back for Kuluva in the 70th minute.

The hosts pushed for an equalizer, but the visitors stood firm to see out the win and progress to the next round.

The victory offers a much-needed boost for KCCA in what has been a challenging season.

With their league campaign falling short of expectations, the Uganda Cup presents a chance to salvage silverware and extend their record tally in the competition to 11 titles.

KCCA now join 14 other teams in the round of 16, including URA, UPDF, Gaddafi, Kataka, SC Villa, Vipers, and defending champions Kitara.

The final slot will be determined on Wednesday when Maroons host Wakiso Giants at Prisons Grounds, Luzira.
