Makindye West MP Allan Ssewanyana has thrown his full support behind KCCA’s decision to take the Gavin Kizito case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), arguing that it exposes deeper governance issues within Ugandan football.
Speaking to NBS Sport, Ssewanyana, a former sports journalist and ex-KCCA vice chairperson, criticized FUFA’s handling of the matter, suggesting that the case highlights broader concerns about the federation’s competence.
He pointed to past disciplinary decisions that were later overturned by CAS, questioning whether FUFA’s decision-making processes align with international standards.
“This will show FIFA that the people governing the Ugandan game are not competent,” Ssewanyana stated.
The MP also noted that similar governance failures have led to Ugandan football stakeholders receiving excessive bans, only for CAS to later intervene.
He argued that KCCA’s decision to escalate their case is a wake-up call for other Ugandan clubs facing unfair treatment.
“This court was introduced to ensure the smooth running of the game globally. It will awaken other clubs in Uganda who go through the same suffering to fight for their rights,” Ssewanyana added.
KCCA officially filed its petition with CAS on March 4, and FUFA has been given 10 days to respond.
