Dortmund Star Coming to Kampala for Key World Cup Qualifier

Guinea has named a strong squad for their upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers, with Borussia Dortmund’s Serhou Guirassy leading the attack as they prepare to face Somalia and Uganda.

Head coach Michel Dussuyer’s 23-man squad features key returns and a fresh face, with notable omissions raising eyebrows.

Guirassy, who has been in prolific form for Dortmund, remains Guinea’s go-to striker, particularly in the absence of Mohamed Bayo, who has struggled for form.

The 28-year-old has been a standout performer in the Bundesliga and UEFA Champions League, making him a vital asset for the Syli National’s qualification push.

Guinea will first take on Somalia in Abidjan on March 21 before travelling to Kampala for a crucial clash against Uganda on March 25.

With only the group winners securing an automatic spot at the World Cup, Guinea must claim maximum points to stay in contention.

The squad sees the return of experienced defenders Mohamed Ali Camara and Mouctar Diakhaby, while PAOK’s Mady Camara and FC Arouca’s Morlaye Sylla strengthen the midfield.

A notable inclusion is 21-year-old Ibrahima Sory Bangoura, who earns his first senior call-up after impressing at KRC Genk in Belgium.

Meanwhile, high-profile absentees include Celta Vigo’s Ilaix Moriba and Nantes defender Saidou Sow, with the former reportedly requesting a guaranteed starting role—something Dussuyer refused to promise.

Captain Naby Keita also misses out as he continues his recovery at Ferencváros.

Guinea’s attacking depth will be key against Uganda, with François Kamano, Aliou Badara Baldé, and Algassime Bah offering additional firepower alongside Guirassy.

The Dortmund striker will be the focal point in Kampala, as Guinea looks to take a decisive step toward World Cup qualification.
