KCCA continued their resurgence in the Uganda Premier League with a determined 2-1 victory over UPDF at the Bombo Barracks Military Ground on Thursday.
The win, KCCA’s second in a row, came despite the Lugogo-based side playing the last 42 minutes with ten men following Joel Sserunjogi’s sending-off.
Usama Arafat Kizza put the Kasasiro Boys ahead early, curling home a well-placed strike in the sixth minute after meeting Haruna Lukwago’s precise cross.
UPDF then had a series of chances to level matters in the first half, with Ronald Kayondo and Mugisa Frank failing to convert from promising positions.
The visitors’ task became tougher in the 48th minute when Sserunjogi received his second yellow card for a foul on Kayondo, reducing KCCA to ten men.
However, their resilience shone through as Sadat Anaku doubled the lead in the 69th minute, slotting in from close range after Saidi Mayanja’s clever assist.
UPDF pressed hard for a comeback and finally pulled one back in the 80th minute when Andrew Kigozi, a former KCCA player, rifled home after his initial attempt was only partially cleared by Lukwago.
The hosts threw everything forward in the dying minutes, but KCCA’s defense stood firm to secure the win.
The victory lifts the Kasasiro Boys to fourth place with 31 points, while the Army side remains 11th with 24 points.
The two sides will return to action on March 28, with UPDF visiting Wakiso Giants and KCCA hosting Bright Stars at Lugogo.
