Uganda’s Middle-Distance Stars Set for Battle in Nanjing

Uganda’s Halimah Nakaayi will be one to watch in the women’s 800m at the World Athletics Indoor Championships Nanjing 25, as she looks to add another major medal to her impressive career.

The 2019 world champion is among a strong lineup set to challenge defending champion Tsige Duguma of Ethiopia in what promises to be a thrilling contest.

Nakaayi, who has consistently been a top contender in global middle-distance races, will be aiming to improve on her previous performances and make a statement on the indoor stage.

With Olympic silver medallist Duguma entering the event as the favorite, Nakaayi’s experience and tactical ability could play a crucial role in determining the outcome.

The competition will be fierce, with 2024 bronze medallist Noélie Yarigo, Kenya’s Vivian Chebet Kiprotich, and Ethiopia’s Habitam Alemu also vying for top positions.

South Africa’s Prudence Sekgodiso, who set a national indoor record of 1:59.88 this season, and USA’s Nia Akins, who recently clocked a personal best of 1:59.31, add further depth to the field.

Nakaayi’s journey to Nanjing has been marked by resilience, and she will be looking to use her championship experience to her advantage.

As one of Uganda’s most decorated middle-distance runners, a podium finish in Nanjing would solidify her legacy and set the tone for the rest of her season.

With the heats scheduled for March 21, semi-finals on March 22, and the final on March 23, all eyes will be on Nakaayi as she takes on the world’s best in her quest for indoor glory.
