Chelsea Football Club have completed the double signing from Sporting Lisbon, securing the talents of midfielders Geovany Quenda and Dario Essugo for a combined fee reported to be around £62.4 million.
The Portuguese club confirmed the transfers on their official website.
Winger Geovany Quenda, a promising 17-year-old, will join the Blues for a fee that could reach £44 million.
As part of the agreement, Quenda will remain with Sporting until the end of the 2025-26 season, allowing him to continue his development in a familiar environment.
The teenager has recently broken into Sporting’s first team and also made his debut in the prestigious Champions League competition in September.
Meanwhile, 20-year-old defensive midfielder Dario Essugo is set to make his move to Stamford Bridge this summer.
His transfer fee has been announced by Sporting as £18.4 million.
Essugo has been gaining valuable experience on loan at Las Palmas in Spain, where he has impressed with his performances.
However, his time in Spain has also been marked by disciplinary issues, having received two red cards in his last four appearances.
While Chelsea fans will have to wait to see Quenda in action, Essugo could potentially join up with Enzo Maresca’s squad for the inaugural FIFA Club World Cup, which is scheduled to take place in the United States this summer.
The acquisitions of Quenda and Essugo continue Chelsea’s strategy of investing in young talent. The club has already confirmed the signings of two other 17-year-olds, Brazilian forward Estevao Willian and Ecuadorian midfielder Kendry Paez, who will also be joining the London club in the summer.
