Kampala Metropolitan Police have assured fans of heightened security measures ahead of Uganda’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Guinea at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.
Speaking to the media, KMP spokesperson Patrick Onyango confirmed that law enforcement will be on high alert before, during, and after the match to ensure the safety of all attendees.
“We guarantee you that everyone will be safe. Our security operations will start today and continue until after the match when all fans have safely returned home,” Onyango stated.
Security teams, including counter-terrorism officers, will be deployed in and around the stadium, with thorough checks at all entry points.
Onyango also issued a stern warning regarding firearms, emphasizing that no guns will be allowed inside the stadium.
“If you are armed, there will be designated areas where you can leave your firearm before entering. Counter-terrorism officers will guide you on where to deposit it, and you can collect it after the match,” he explained.
With a large crowd expected, police have encouraged fans to arrive early to avoid delays at security checkpoints.
Onyango urged supporters to focus on enjoying the match and backing the Uganda Cranes peacefully.
“Tomorrow is about football. We encourage all Ugandans to come, enjoy the match, and cheer for our team as they aim for victory,” he concluded.
