Elio Capradossi has been handed the captain’s armband for the first time as Uganda Cranes’ starting XI is confirmed ahead of tonight’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Guinea at Mandela National Stadium.
Head coach Paul Put has made key changes to the lineup, notably dropping Ismail Watenga to the bench after his struggles in the last match against Mozambique.
Nafian Alionzi takes his place between the posts. In midfield, Ronald Ssekiganda replaces the injured Khalid Aucho, while Rogers Mato replaces suspended Denis Omedi as Travis Mutyaba gets the nod ahead of Jude Ssemugabi.
Capradossi, who plays for Serie B side Cittadella, will marshal the defense alongside Bevis Mugabi, with Elvis Bwomono and Aziz Kayondo completing the back four.
The Italian-born defender, who has played for Uganda since 2024 after representing Italy at youth level, will lead the team in a must-win encounter as the Cranes look to bounce back from their previous defeat.
The forward line remains has Rogers Mato, Allan Okello and Travis Mutyaba playing behind Muhammad Shaban.
