The Kenya Football Federation (FKF) has launched an official investigation into allegations that Patrick Matasi, a 37-year-old goalkeeper for Kakamega Homeboyz and former Harambee Stars regular, has been involved in match manipulation.
The investigation follows the circulation of an undated video online, which appears to show Matasi discussing a deal to influence the outcome of a league game.
Matasi, who has earned over 30 international caps since his debut in 2017, last represented Kenya in October 2024 during an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
The video, which the FKF has not verified, has sparked widespread concern.
However, Matasi has denied any involvement, with Kakamega Homeboyz owner Cleophas Shimanyula stating, “He was also shocked at what he was seeing in the video and told me he doesn’t know about match-fixing.”
The FKF has pledged to collaborate with FIFA, the Confederation of African Football (CAF), and other authorities to ensure a thorough and transparent investigation.
“We reaffirm our zero-tolerance policy on match manipulation and are committed to safeguarding the credibility of our competitions,” the FKF said in a statement.
Shimanyula has expressed support for Matasi, emphasizing his recent strong performances, including three clean sheets in as many games since joining Kakamega Homeboyz.
“He is innocent until proven guilty,” Shimanyula added, challenging anyone with credible evidence to come forward.
The FKF has called on the Kenyan football community to assist in the investigation, assuring that all reports will be handled with strict confidentiality.
