Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has clarified why promising youngster Chido Obi-Martin will not be part of the squad for their Premier League match against Nottingham Forest on Tuesday.
Instead, the 18-year-old striker has been called up for United’s U-18 team, who face Aston Villa in the FA Youth Cup semi-final on Monday.
Obi-Martin, who joined from Arsenal last year, has been a standout performer for United’s youth side, scoring an impressive seven goals in just three appearances during the tournament, including a remarkable hat-trick against Chelsea in the fifth round.
Discussing the decision, Amorim explained: “He is going to play today because we need to manage his minutes properly.
The academy players have that winning mentality, and participating in these games is vital for their growth.
Chido is an important part of our youth development strategy, and this approach helps both the player and the team.”
Manchester United returns to Premier League action on Tuesday after the international break, looking to maintain form ahead of a derby clash against Manchester City on April 6.
