A high-stakes encounter awaits fans at Kyadondo Rugby Grounds on Friday afternoon when newly promoted Victoria Sharks face off with defending champions Heathens in the Uganda Rugby Premiership quarterfinals.
The match, set to be broadcast live on NBS Sport at 4:30pm, promises fireworks as the spirited Sharks; who finished fifth in the regular season, look to upset the 17-time champions.
It’s been a fairytale debut season for the Sharks, registering six wins in eleven games.
Their narrow 15-13 loss to the Heathens in the regular season showed just how close they are to competing with the elite.
But the Heathens, with a decorated history and home advantage, will be keen to assert dominance.
Despite a patchy season that saw them finish fourth with three losses and a draw, their playoff pedigree and experience make them formidable.
This quarterfinal marks the start of the knockout phase introduced last season, where the league title is decided in a series of one-off ties culminating in a single-leg final on May 10.
Elsewhere in the quarterfinals, league leaders Black Pirates will travel to face Walukuba Barbarians in Jinja while KCB KOBs meet Toyota Buffaloes at Kyadondo, both games scheduled for Saturday.
In another match that will be broadcast live on NBS Sport, Jinja Hippos will take on Rhinos at Legends, also on Saturday. The return legs are scheduled for next Friday.
