Paul Mucureezi Aims for Uganda Premier League Glory as NEC Eye Title

National Enterprise Corporation (NEC) forward Paul Mucureezi has expressed his determination to secure the 2024/25 Uganda Premier League title after a stellar month in March.

The dynamic player netted two goals and provided four assists, playing a pivotal role in his team’s title push.

Mucureezi’s outstanding performances earned him the prestigious Fortebet Real Stars award for the best footballer of March, beating strong competition from KCCA FC midfielder Usama Arafat and BUL FC forward Karim Ndugwa.

Speaking after receiving the award, Mucureezi underlined his ambitions for both the team and his individual contributions.

“The team has senior players who have been in the league for some time and know what is at stake. The target is to win the title, and as a player, I will play my role of scoring goals and creating assists,” he said.

With just eight games remaining in the season, NEC sit second on the league table, trailing leaders Vipers by four points. Mucureezi remains optimistic about his team’s chances and is eager to continue making a difference.

Next up for NEC is a match against Kitara, a club Mucureezi previously represented during the 2023/24 campaign.

Previewing the clash, Mucureezi acknowledged the challenge but emphasized his team’s focus: “Kitara is a tricky fixture for us since it’s a big team. They have some good players, so it’s going to be a tight one. But as a team, we are focused on not losing a home game as we fight for the title.”

The Fortebet Real Stars monthly awards also recognized excellence in other sports.

Victoria Sharks’ Israel Makokha clinched the rugby accolade, while German-based welterweight boxer Muzamir Kakande received the boxing honor.

Additionally, Lukanga Boxing Club proprietor Samuel Lukanga was honored with the lifetime achievement award for his significant contributions to boxing development.
