Uganda Secures Back-to-Back Kabaddi Titles, Eyes Global Glory

The Uganda women’s national Kabaddi team, the She Gladiators, reaffirmed their supremacy in African Kabaddi by successfully defending their title at the Africa Kabaddi Women’s Cup, which concluded on April 7 at the Kasarani Indoor Stadium in Nairobi, Kenya.

Uganda emerged champions after overpowering competition from nine other nations—Kenya, Zanzibar, South Africa, Rwanda, South Sudan, Zambia, Ghana, Burundi, and Tanzania—solidifying their status as the top Kabaddi force on the continent.

The victory also earned them qualification for the Kabaddi World Cup, set to take place in June in India.

The She Gladiators entered the tournament as defending champions, having defeated Zanzibar 34-18 in the 2023 final.

This year, they replicated their dominance with a commanding performance across all fixtures, showcasing superior strength, discipline, and tactical awareness throughout the tournament.

Team captain Olivia Nalubega praised the squad’s unity and resilience, stating, “We fought with heart and pride. Wearing the Ugandan flag on our backs, we knew we weren’t just playing for a trophy—we were playing for our nation. We’re ready for India!”

The African championship, held biennially, continues to attract some of the best Kabaddi talent on the continent. Uganda’s consecutive title wins reflect not only their consistency but also their growing influence in the sport regionally.

Prior to the tournament, Assistant General Secretary Sarah Chelangat of the National Council of Sports urged the team to represent Uganda with discipline and determination.

Head Coach Ephraim had also emphasized the team’s readiness, highlighting their focus on the upcoming World Cup in Delhi.

The She Gladiators are now set to prepare for the global stage, where they will face off against the sport’s traditional powerhouses.
