Rangers pulled off a stunning last-gasp 2-2 draw against Aberdeen at Pittodrie, keeping Celtic’s Scottish Premiership title celebrations on hold.
Down to 10 men and trailing by two goals, Barry Ferguson’s side showed remarkable resilience to snatch a point in an unforgettable contest.
Aberdeen appeared to be in complete control in the first half, with Leighton Clarkson curling a sublime free-kick into the top corner and Pape Gueye tapping in from close range after Ross McCausland was shown a second yellow card for a rash challenge on Topi Keskinen. Rangers faced an uphill battle as they trailed 2-0 with a man down.
However, the visitors fought back in the second half, with Hamza Igamane muscling past the defense to pull a goal back in the 49th minute. Despite relentless Aberdeen pressure and near-misses from Kevin Nisbet and Alexander Jensen, Rangers refused to bow out.
The drama reached fever pitch in stoppage time as Ianis Hagi completed the comeback. Pouncing on the rebound after Cyriel Dessers’ low shot struck the post, Hagi looped the ball into the net in the sixth minute of added time, silencing the home crowd and delaying Celtic’s coronation.
The draw preserves Rangers’ fight in the title race and caps an incredible display of tenacity, despite making nine changes ahead of their Europa League quarter-final second leg against Athletic Bilbao. Former Aberdeen midfielder Connor Barron captained the Ibrox side in a game filled with twists and high stakes.
For Aberdeen, the result denies them a return to third place, but their impressive form—just one defeat in nine games—remains evident. Nisbet’s disallowed goal for handball proved costly, leaving the Dons frustrated as they squandered a golden opportunity.
