After a two-year hiatus, the Uganda Netball Super League made a jubilant comeback as the 2025 season officially launched at Nakivubo Stadium.

A heavy downpour that lasted throughout the day couldn’t dampen the enthusiasm of players and fans, who braved the rain to celebrate the sport’s triumphant return.

The event, marked by delays due to the relentless rain, eventually sprang to life by evening, with spirited matches reigniting Uganda’s passion for netball.

Dr. Patrick Ogwel, General Secretary of the National Council of Sports and guest of honor, expressed optimism about the future. He highlighted upcoming improvements in sports infrastructure, including the nearing completion of Hoima City Stadium with its modern indoor facilities, which will mitigate such weather challenges in the future.

Netball Uganda President Jocelyn Ucanda reflected on the struggles faced during the sport’s absence, especially for female athletes, but emphasized a renewed commitment to excellence.

“We want these players to play in good conditions and improve officiation standards to raise the game to an international level,” she said.

The action on the court didn’t disappoint. Record champions NIC rebounded from their opening loss to KCCA with a resounding 57-44 win over defending champions Prisons, rekindling their championship ambitions. Meanwhile, KCCA extended their fine form with a dominant 61-23 victory over Busia.

Other Match Results:

– Busia 38 – Dynamites 46
– Ugisa 40 – UCU 44
– UPDF 61 – UGX 33
– NIC 57 – Prisons 44
– KCCA 61 – Busia 23
