St. Mary’s Kitende Eye Title Defence in Wakiso Zone Final Showdown with Buddo SS

St. Mary’s Boarding Secondary School Kitende will be aiming to defend their Wakiso Zone Football Championship crown when they take on fierce rivals Buddo Secondary School in the final on Tuesday afternoon.

The match, which will be played at the Wakissha Resource Centre at 4 pm, promises to be another epic installment of one of Uganda’s most intense school football rivalries.

The stakes could not be higher. For Kitende, victory would mark their fifth Wakiso Zone title and further reinforce their dominance in the zone.

For Buddo SS, the final is a golden opportunity to level the playing field, as a win would see them match Kitende’s four championship titles and reclaim bragging rights after falling short in last year’s final.

Last season, Kitende edged Buddo 1-0 in a tense affair, breaking a two-year losing streak against their long-standing nemesis at the district level.

That win marked a turning point, ending Buddo’s recent stronghold and reasserting Kitende’s credentials as the standard bearers of school football in the region.

The road to this year’s final has seen both schools navigate tough opposition.

Kitende booked their place after a narrow but decisive 1-0 semifinal win over Standard High School Zzana (STAHIZA), thanks to a late strike by forward Santos Agok.

Buddo SS also left it late in their own semifinal, seeing off a determined Greenlight Islamic SS side by the same scoreline.

But with both finalists having already secured their spots in the National Boys Football Championship set for May in Ngora, today’s contest will be about legacy, pride, and asserting dominance in arguably the most competitive school football zone in the country.

For Kitende, guided by the experienced Hassan Zungu, a successful title defence would be a powerful statement of their intent ahead of the national stage, especially after their convincing 6-0 rout of Kakungulu High School in the quarterfinals.

Their attacking firepower and defensive discipline have been key features of their campaign, and Zungu will be counting on his side to rise to the occasion once again.

Buddo, meanwhile, have a score to settle. After falling short in last year’s final, today offers them a chance at redemption and an opportunity to underline their pedigree as three-time champions.

Having previously lifted the title in 2019, 2022, and 2023, they arrive at Wakissha with a history of delivering when it matters most.

The match also rekindles a rivalry that has become synonymous with high school football excellence in Uganda.

Over the past decade, the two institutions have produced some of the country’s finest talent and their meetings have often served as previews for the national finals.

Adding to the day’s excitement will be the girls’ final earlier on at 2 pm between St. Noa Girls’ School and Rines SS, another repeat of last year’s finale.

St. Noa, the reigning champions, will be out to reaffirm their supremacy, while Rines seek to turn the tables this time around.
