Uganda’s 17-Player Team Heads to Namibia for Junior Women’s Hockey Continental Showpiece

The Uganda Hockey Association named a squad of 17 players set to represent the country at the Junior Africa Cup in Windhoek, Namibia, from April 18 to 25, 2025.

The tournament, which also serves as a qualifier for the 2025 Junior World Cup in Santiago, Chile, will mark a major milestone for the young Ugandan side as they aim to secure one of the three available slots on the global stage.

The team, which departed today April 17 and returns on April 27, is captained by Jolly Roy Alimo (18), with vice-captain duties shared between Winnie Sarah Nandi (19) and Hildah Star Balondemu (22).

The squad features a promising group of players, the majority of whom are still in secondary school, highlighting the sport’s growing roots at the grassroots level in Uganda.

* Grace Norah Natabo
* Daniellah Amara

Head Coach Moses Nsereko, assisted by Martin Amr Okello and Davis Nku, will lead the technical bench. Nsereko expressed confidence in the team’s readiness and praised the players for their commitment and improvement during months of preparation.

“This is a special group of young women who have shown the hunger to compete and grow. We believe they can rise to the occasion and make Uganda proud,” Nsereko said.

The team will be supported by a delegation that includes:
