Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has committed his future to the club by signing a new two-year contract.
The Dutchman’s previous deal was set to expire at the end of the season, but the extension will see the 33-year-old remain at Anfield, joining teammate Mohamed Salah, who also signed a two-year renewal last week.
“It was always Liverpool,” Van Dijk said, addressing speculation linking him with a potential move to Paris Saint-Germain. “It was always in my head, always the plan, and it was always Liverpool.”
Since joining the club, Van Dijk has made 314 appearances and was appointed captain in 2023 after Jordan Henderson’s departure.
Reflecting on the new contract, Van Dijk expressed pride and joy in continuing his journey with the Reds: “There wasn’t any doubt that this is the place to be for me and my family. Someone called me an adopted Scouser the other day—hearing that gives me such a great feeling.”
The Dutch defender emphasized his happiness and gratitude, saying, “To be able to extend my career at this club for another two years is incredible. I’m so proud and so happy.”
