FIFA President Gianni Infantino has assured international fans that the United States will be a welcoming and secure host for the 2026 World Cup.
Speaking to The Washington Post, Infantino emphasized the collaboration between FIFA and U.S. government agencies to ensure the tournament’s success.
Infantino revealed that he has been actively engaging with senior officials, including President Donald Trump, Attorney General Pam Bondi, and FBI Director Kash Patel, to address logistics and security concerns.
Discussions with Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy also covered the anticipated challenges of managing the influx of global visitors.
“It is very important we have the engagement of the different government agencies to make sure that security is guaranteed, that fans can travel to the U.S. and around the U.S., that transportation is working perfectly, that the world will be welcomed,” Infantino stated.
The 2026 World Cup marks the first U.S. hosting since 1994, with matches set to take place across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Additionally, the Club World Cup will serve as a precursor event, kicking off on June 14 with Inter Miami facing Al Ahly in the opener.
Infantino expressed confidence in the preparation efforts, highlighting the U.S. government’s commitment to the upcoming tournaments.
“We got all these guarantees from the government, who is very, very engaged to make sure this Club World Cup is a huge success, because this will pave the path as well for next year,” he said.
