Uganda’s Lady Rugby Cranes will face Zimbabwe in their final fixture of the Rugby Africa Women’s Cup Division One tournament on Saturday, with everything to play for as they chase a clean sweep and a first-place finish in Abidjan.
The Ugandan side currently tops the standings after back-to-back commanding victories—beating Tunisia and then routing hosts Ivory Coast 52-0.
A win would secure Uganda’s place among the continent’s top four teams, joining South Africa, Kenya, and Madagascar in the next edition of the premier women’s rugby tournament in Africa.
Zimbabwe are coming off a narrow 27-24 loss to Tunisia. Despite a spirited second-half comeback, the Lady Sables could not overturn a sluggish first half and now find themselves in a must-win scenario if they are to have any hope of challenging for the title.
The Lady Rugby Cranes, meanwhile, have looked dominant throughout the competition.
Their clinical finishing, solid defensive structure, and tactical discipline have set them apart, leaving them as the only unbeaten side in the tournament.
Uganda needs at least a draw or a loss with a bonus point to secure a place at the 2025 Rugby Africa Women’s Cup to be held in May.
They will face Zimbabwe on Saturday 19th April at 3 PM.
