Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has dismissed rumors of a rift with club president Florentino Perez following the team’s disappointing Champions League quarter-final exit at the hands of Arsenal.
Speaking ahead of Sunday’s La Liga clash against Athletic Bilbao, Ancelotti reaffirmed his unity with Perez and shifted focus to the titles still in contention.
“We have the same idea—there is no conflict with the club,” said Ancelotti. “The president shows more affection in these moments than when we win. The Champions League is the most important competition for everyone, but it’s not true that the rest do not count.”
Despite mounting speculation about the 65-year-old’s future, Ancelotti maintained his commitment to the team, emphasizing gratitude for the players who have brought him success.
“The only thing I want to do is thank all these players. I’ve had a great time so far, and I want to continue doing so,” he added.
Real Madrid, defending La Liga champions, find themselves four points behind Barcelona and will face the Catalan club in the Copa del Rey final on April 26. Ancelotti acknowledged the criticism that followed Madrid’s 5-1 aggregate defeat by Arsenal but remained focused on securing silverware in the remaining competitions.
The manager’s contract runs until 2026, and he has hinted at discussions with the club regarding his future at the end of the season. He has also been linked with coaching Brazil’s national team after Dorival Junior’s dismissal, although Ancelotti declined to address the speculation directly.
Meanwhile, Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso and former Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp have emerged as potential candidates for the Madrid managerial post, should Ancelotti depart.
