Brazilian winger Antony has credited former Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag for shaping his career, despite experiencing limited opportunities during their time together at Old Trafford.
Speaking to ESPN, the 25-year-old expressed his gratitude for the Dutchman’s support and mentorship, while insisting he holds no grudges over his lack of minutes.
Antony moved to Manchester United in 2022, shortly after Ten Hag’s appointment, having worked under him for two years at Ajax.
Although their early collaboration showed promise, Antony fell out of favor under Ten Hag before eventually leaving the club on loan to Real Betis, three months after the manager’s departure.
Reflecting on his journey, Antony stated, “Erik ten Hag is a coach I’m very grateful to. He helped me a lot in the Netherlands and in England too. Even though the opportunities didn’t come the way I wanted, I don’t hold any grudges. He’s someone who will always be part of my story.”
Since joining Real Betis, Antony has revitalized his career, contributing four goals and four assists in 16 matches across all competitions.
His performances have been instrumental in Betis’ resurgence, as the club has climbed to sixth place in La Liga and is on track to secure a Europa League spot.
The winger is set to return to action for Manuel Pellegrini’s side on Monday against Girona as he aims to continue his impactful form.
