In one of Ugandan rugby’s most intense modern-day rivalries, Stanbic Black Pirates RFC and Platinum Credit Heathens RFC are set to clash in a highly anticipated Nile Special Rugby Premiership semifinal fixture this Friday.
Their previous encounter this season was among the most thrilling matches of the campaign. The Pirates staged a remarkable comeback, overturning a 31-9 halftime deficit to edge the Heathens 33-31 in a dramatic home victory during the regular season.
The win served as revenge for the “Sea Robbers,” who narrowly lost last year’s final 15-13 to the Kyadondo-based side. With both teams now set to face off in the semifinals, fans can expect another captivating contest.
Stanbic Black Pirates winger Roy Kizito acknowledged the challenge ahead and underlined the team’s commitment heading into Friday’s first leg.
“We were not a consistent team last season, but we’ve come back stronger this year. We are preparing well, and the boys are determined to bring the trophy home,” Kizito said.
In the other semifinal tie, Jinja Hippos RFC will take on KCB KOBs RFC, rounding off a weekend of high-stakes rugby action on Saturday.
Matches continue to be broadcast live on NBS Sport and streamed on the AfroMobile App.
