The football community in South Africa is in mourning following the sudden passing of Durban City FC player Sinamandla Zondi, who collapsed during a Motsepe Foundation Championship match against Milford FC at Chartsworth Stadium on Tuesday.
Zondi was rushed to a hospital but tragically did not survive.
Durban City confirmed his passing in a heartfelt statement, describing him as more than just a talented footballer—he was a teammate, a brother, and an inspiration to those who knew him.
The match, which was suspended at halftime with Milford leading 1-0, was a crucial fixture in the race for promotion to the Betway Premiership.
The Premier Soccer League will issue an official statement on the tragedy and determine when the game will be rescheduled.
Durban City, formerly known as Maritzburg United, were competing in the Betway Premiership two years ago before relegation.
They currently lead the championship standings, while Milford sit in seventh place.
