Uganda’s young athletes continued their impressive run at the ongoing EAAR Africa U18 & U20 Championships in Zanzibar, securing two gold and two silver medals in the women’s distance events.
Cherop Risper led the charge in the U20 women’s 5000m, claiming gold with a time of 15:31.55 after a commanding performance.
Close behind her was teammate Charity Cherop, who secured the silver medal with a strong finish in 15:33.43, completing a remarkable 1-2 for Uganda.
In the U18 women’s 3000m, Uganda’s dominance was equally evident. Chebet Isella clinched the gold medal, while Kezia Chebet followed closely to earn silver, underlining the nation’s strength in distance running.
The victories mark a proud moment for Uganda as the young athletes not only delivered outstanding times but also showcased the depth of talent emerging from the country’s development programs.
Their performances further build on the momentum from the recent national trials and serve as a clear testament to the success of structured athlete nurturing systems.
