Uganda’s Joshua Cheptegei fulfilled his goal of leaving Bengaluru with a victory, clinching the men’s international elite title at the TCS World 10K Bengaluru 2025 with a provisional time of 27 minutes and 53 seconds.
Cheptegei, who had finished runner-up on his previous appearance at the event in 2014, delivered a strong final sprint to edge out Eritrea’s Saymon Tesfagiorgis, who secured second place with a time of 27:55.
Kenya’s Vincent Langat completed the podium, finishing third in 28:02.
In the women’s category, Uganda’s Sarah Chelangat emerged victorious, crossing the finish line in 31 minutes and 7 seconds.
Chelangat outpaced Kenya’s Cintia Chepngeno, who finished second in 32:04, while Ethiopia’s Guteni Shanko secured third place with a time of 32:06.
Chelangat’s win marked a significant achievement, as she overcame a highly competitive field that included eight athletes who had previously clocked faster times than the course record.
The race, which holds a World Athletics Gold Label status, attracted an elite field of international competitors and offered a total prize purse of USD 210,000.
Although the existing course records—27:38 for men and 30:35 for women—remained intact, the competition provided a thrilling spectacle for fans.
