Uganda Martyrs Lubaga WFC head coach Edward Kasozi and Kampala Queens midfielder Shamirah Nalugya have been named the FUFA Women’s Super League Coach and Player of the Month, respectively, following a stellar run of performances in March.
The pair received their accolades during a colourful ceremony held at the Finance Trust Bank headquarters in Kampala.
Kasozi guided Uganda Martyrs to a flawless March campaign, collecting nine points from three successive victories against Wakiso Hill, She Corporate, and She Maroons.
The impressive turnaround lifted the team from 9th to 7th place on the table and signaled a revival following a difficult first round marred by player exits and leadership changes.
“When the season started, we got a transition in our leadership, and we lost a lot of players, which affected us greatly, but this second season, we signed new players, and we have registered some improvement,” Kasozi said after receiving his award.
He beat off competition from Kampala Queens’ Asefa Firew and Tooro Queens’ Rogers Ayesiga for the coaching honour.
In the players’ category, Shamirah Nalugya emerged as a clear standout. The Kampala Queens playmaker scored three goals and earned two Player of the Match awards, playing a key role in keeping her team firmly at the top of the league standings.
During the ceremony, FUFA Vice President Hon. Nakiwala Florence praised the growing competitiveness of the women’s game and reaffirmed FUFA’s support towards both athletes and the sports media that continues to highlight their achievements.
As the league moves into Matchday 22 this Saturday, Uganda Martyrs will be looking to sustain their momentum when they visit Makerere University WFC at the Makerere Grounds.
With only three games left in the season, Kasozi’s side remains determined to finish strong.
Elsewhere, She Corporate will take on Kawempe Muslim Ladies at MUBS Nakawa, while table-toppers Kampala Queens face a challenging trip to Prisons Ground in Luzira to play She Maroons.
