City Oilers guard Fayed Baale has attributed the team’s improved defensive performance to their narrow 60-56 win over Victoria Crocs on Tuesday evening at the Lugogo Arena.
The result marked a third victory of the season for the 10-time National Basketball League champions, who have endured a sluggish start to their campaign.
Baale, who missed the opening games due to injury, has returned to bolster Andrew Tendo’s side with added grit and composure.
Despite a closely contested battle across all four quarters, the Oilers pulled ahead in the final moments to secure the win. Baale, a key contributor over the last two seasons, continues to be an influential presence following the departure of several experienced players.
“We’ve done a good job on defense. We need to keep improving. We’re getting good stops and we’ll be fine in the upcoming games,” Baale said after the game.
He reaffirmed the team’s primary objective: defending their title.
“The goal is to win the championship. Even though we started badly, we have to build on what we’ve done and keep moving forward,” he added.
League action resumes tomorrow with the UCU Lady Canons taking on the KCCA Leopards, while the Namuwongo Blazers will face the UCU Canons in the men’s game. Both fixtures will be broadcast live on NBS Sport and Afromobile.
