Edgar Watson Hails School Football for Producing Stars

Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) Chief Executive Officer, Edgar Watson, has applauded the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) for its role in nurturing football talent through the National Football Championship.

Speaking at the official draws held ahead of the 2025 tournament, Watson emphasized the impact of school competitions on the broader football ecosystem in Uganda.

The championship is scheduled to begin on May 4 at Ngora High School, bringing together 64 teams grouped into 16 pools.

“As FUFA, we don’t take these competitions for granted,” Watson said. “We know they have produced superstars. At least we have Mustapha Kiiza and Sandra Nabweteme, legends of not only the schools but also Ugandan football.”

Watson, who was the Chief Guest at the draw event, underscored the role school football has played in shaping careers and providing opportunities.

FUFA and USSSA have worked in tandem to streamline talent development and ensure that promising players transition into professional ranks.

The 2025 edition of the championship promises another thrilling showcase of raw talent, with powerhouses like St Julian High School, St Mary’s Kitende, Buddo SS, and Kawempe Muslim all drawn into competitive groups.
