Ugandan striker Denis Omedi played a pivotal role as APR defeated arch-rivals Rayon Sports 2-0 to win the 2025 Peace Cup final at a full-capacity Amahoro Stadium on Sunday, May 4.
Omedi was instrumental in APR’s second goal, launching a swift counterattack in the 30th minute by clearing a corner from his own box and setting up the move that led to Gilbert Mugisha’s finish.
The goal came after Burkinabe forward Djibril Ouattara had opened the scoring in the 4th minute with a brilliant solo effort.
APR’s victory marked their first Peace Cup title since 2017, ending an eight-year wait in front of 45,000 fans.
Omedi nearly added a third late in the game, unleashing a powerful strike in the 80th minute that forced a superb save from Rayon goalkeeper Patience Ndikuriyo.
Omedi is one of three Ugandans on the APR squad, alongside Taddeo Lwanga and Hakim Kiwanuka, who also celebrate the title with the club following Sunday’s triumph.
The win sees APR secure a place in the 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup, provided they do not clinch the Rwanda Premier League title.
