Ugandan long-distance runner Kenneth Kiprop delivered a career-best performance at the 2025 Wanda Diamond League in Shanghai/Keqiao, clocking a personal best of 13:00.49 to finish fifth in the men’s 5000m final.
The meet, held on May 3 at the China Textile City Sports Centre in Shaoxing, served as the second stop in this year’s 15-event Diamond League series.
Facing a world-class field in a fast-paced race, Kiprop held his own against some of the most experienced names in long-distance running.
His time of 13:00.49 not only placed him among the top five finishers but also affirmed his status as one of Uganda’s rising talents in the 5000m event.
The men’s 5000m race was won in a sub-13-minute time with Ethiopian duo Berihu Aregawi (12:50.45) and Kuma Girma (12:50.69) finishing first and second respectively.
For Kiprop, the result provides strong momentum ahead of the upcoming meets on the Diamond League circuit and builds confidence ahead of the World Athletics U20 Championships later this year.
