The Uganda National Lacrosse League (UNLL) will officially kick off its 2025 season on May 9, with a three-day opening weekend scheduled through May 11 in Kampala.
Organized by the Uganda Lacrosse Association (ULA), this year’s campaign will feature eight men’s teams competing in the fast-paced Olympic sixes format, a version of the game recognized for its speed, intensity, and appeal ahead of the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
UNLL management has called on all participating clubs to use the remaining days to finalize preparations.
“This is the time to get teams ready, secure equipment, and ensure uniforms are in place,” a statement from league management read. “We expect full readiness by the time the games begin on May 9.”
The eight participating teams include returning powerhouses and emerging programs: Blink Kobs, Buroni Panthers, FCA Warriors, Jinja Nile Zulus, Mukono Vikings, MUBS Lacrosse, Metropolitan International University, and Empower International Academy.
The adoption of the Olympic sixes format aligns with Uganda’s broader ambitions to qualify for future international competitions, including the World Lacrosse Olympic Qualifiers.
The format features six players per team on the field, shorter game times, and a focus on speed and athleticism—providing a dynamic experience for players and fans alike.
The 2025 season is expected to serve as a key platform for identifying talent for national team duty, as Uganda gears up for the African qualifiers later this year.
