Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has stirred the pot ahead of their clash with Premier League champions Liverpool, jokingly suggesting Arsenal have “two Premier League titles” based on their higher points totals in the last two seasons compared to Liverpool’s current winning tally.
“Liverpool have won the title with less points than we have in the last two seasons,” Arteta smiled.
His comments add spice to Sunday’s league match at Anfield.
While Liverpool, currently on 82 points, could still surpass Arsenal’s previous tallies, Arteta’s remark highlights the Gunners’ consistent high performance.
Before facing Liverpool, Arsenal have a crucial Champions League semi-final second leg against Paris St-Germain, aiming to overturn a 1-0 deficit.
Arteta hopes his team can be “in the right place in the right moment” to reach their first Champions League final since 2006.
