Vipers travel East this weekend knowing that a win against BUL will crown them champions of the 2024/25 StarTimes Uganda Premier League.
The Venoms head into Saturday’s high-stakes encounter at the FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru, on top of the league table with 65 points from 27 games.
A victory will put them beyond the reach of their closest challengers, NEC, who currently sit seven points adrift with just three matches left.
The Kitende-based side are in red-hot form, having won four and drawn one of their last five games, including a ruthless 6-0 demolition of Mbale Heroes in their previous outing.
Vipers have scored 46 goals this season and boast an impressive defensive record, conceding just 13.
However, Saturday’s task will be far from straightforward. BUL, currently third with 50 points, have proven to be one of the most resilient teams in the league.
They’ve lost just three times all season and have built a reputation for frustrating opponents, drawing 11 matches.
The head-to-head record adds further intrigue. BUL are unbeaten in their last four meetings with Vipers, including a 1-1 draw earlier this season in Kitende and back-to-back victories last season 1-0 in Namboole and a 3-2 thriller in Kitende. The last time Vipers beat BUL away was in December 2022.
With history and pressure looming large, both teams have everything to play for.
BUL are eager to finish strong and possibly spoil Vipers’ title party, while the Venoms are focused on wrapping up a dominant campaign with the league title.
Kick-off in Njeru promises to be intense, with the visitors needing all three points to secure their seventh league crown and extend their legacy at the top of Ugandan football.
