Thunderbirds are, for now, on top of the 2025 Uganda Women’s Rugby Premiership table.

This follows a comprehensive 68-00 (HT: 37-00) victory against Nile Rapids on Wednesday evening at Kyadondo Rugby Club. It was a match rescheduled from Round 8 on March 1 owing to Nile Rapids’ lack of finances to honour the fixture.

Also, the venue was switched from Damwaters to Kyadondo after Thunderbirds’ intervention to ensure the fixture is played.

Samiya Ayikoru led the scorers’ sheet with four tries. The other try scorers were Angella Nanyonjo (3), Asha Nakityo, Phyllis Apio, Janat Nandudu, Yvonne Najjuma, and Agnes Nakuya.

Nandudu kicked one conversion and Mary Kyoita converted three attempts at goal.

The result brings Thunderbirds to fifty points from eleven matches played. They equal Black Pearls’ tally but are on top of the table due to a superior points difference.

The title race intensifies from here since there are two rounds to the end of the season but Thunderbirds have one match left to play and Black Pearls have two.

Next Fixtures in Title Race:

Round 11 (March 10):
• Kings Park – Black Pearls v Avengers
• Thunderbirds (bye)

Round 12 – Season Finale (March 17):
• Kyadondo – Thunderbirds v Black Pearls

For avoidance of any doubt, only Black Pearls and Thunderbirds can mathematically win the title.

Unlike the men’s premiership, the women’s premiership is played in a league format. So the team with the highest points after conclusion of Round 12 will be crowned champions at Kyadondo.
