Jack Wilshere will leave Norwich City after the club decided against considering him for the permanent manager position.
The former Arsenal midfielder, who took charge of the final two Championship games as caretaker boss following Johannes Hoff Thorup’s sacking, oversaw a draw and a win.
Sporting director Ben Knapper told BBC Radio Norfolk that the managerial search would be “focussed externally.”
Knapper, who previously worked with Wilshere at Arsenal, acknowledged his disappointment but insisted on an “objective” decision.
Despite full-back Jack Stacey stating that the players wanted Wilshere to get the job, the club will now look elsewhere.
Knapper said they would take their time to find the right candidate but aim to appoint someone before pre-season.
He added that Thorup’s dismissal was due to declining team performance and results. Wilshere will now seek a head coach role at another club, while Norwich also face potential exits for top scorers Sainz and Sargent.
