Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has fueled speculation about his departure by stating that “every door” is open for former midfielder Xabi Alonso, currently leaving Bayer Leverkusen after a successful spell.
Ancelotti’s comments follow widespread reports linking Alonso with the Real Madrid job for next season, with Ancelotti expected to leave despite having a year left on his contract.
Ancelotti acknowledged Alonso’s impressive work at Leverkusen, who achieved an unbeaten league and cup double last season, while his own Real Madrid won LaLiga and the Champions League.
This season has seen Madrid struggle more, exiting the Champions League quarterfinals, though they remain four points behind LaLiga leaders Barcelona with four games left.
Ahead of Sunday’s El Clasico, Ancelotti expressed confidence his team could defeat Barcelona, despite recent losses.
