Kings College Budo clinched a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Busoga College Mwiri in a tightly contested boys’ hockey match at the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) games on Saturday.
The lone goal came in the second half of the match, following a tense and goalless first half where both sides struggled to find a breakthrough.
Budo’s defence remained resolute for the remainder of the match, warding off several attempts by Mwiri to equalize.
The final whistle sparked jubilant scenes from the Budo camp, with players from both the boys’ and girls’ teams celebrating the hard-earned win.
Budo captain Isaac Nanjala credited their victory to sheer determination. “The game was really tough, so we had to increase our efforts to outcompete the other team,” he told the USSSA Media Team.
In other boys’ hockey results on Day 2 of the tournament, St Mary’s College Kisubi played to a goalless draw with Sacred Heart Mushanga, while Mbarara High School edged Kakungulu Memorial School 2-1.
Kyaddondo SS and Ntare School shared the spoils in a 0-0 draw, and Namilyango College registered a 2-0 win over Makerere College School.
In the girls’ category, Kings College Budo also recorded a win, beating Old Kampala SS 1-0. Kakungulu Memorial School defeated St Mary’s Namagunga by the same margin, while Sacred Heart Mushanga and Bweranyangi Girls ended their match goalless. Masheruka Girls earned a narrow 1-0 win over Gayaza High School.
