Manchester United have escalated their pursuit of Brentford striker Bryan Mbeumo, submitting an improved bid exceeding £60 million.
This follows an earlier £45 million offer, plus £10 million in add-ons, which was rejected this month.
Talks are ongoing for the 25-year-old Cameroon international, who would be Ruben Amorim’s second summer signing after the £62.5 million acquisition of Matheus Cunha.
United is keen to strengthen their squad before pre-season training begins on July 7, aiming for a more robust start to the season.
Mbeumo’s Premier League experience is highly valued, with Amorim seeking players who can make an immediate impact. He enjoyed a career-best season for Brentford, scoring 20 goals and providing nine assists.
While new Tottenham manager Thomas Frank and other Champions League clubs have shown interest, Brentford is reportedly seeking a fee similar to what Wolves received for Cunha, especially as Mbeumo has a year left on his contract.
A potential consideration for United is Mbeumo’s expected four-week absence for the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco in early 2025.
The intensified chase for Mbeumo coincides with renewed speculation surrounding Alejandro Garnacho’s future at United.
Debate ignited after Garnacho posted an image of himself wearing an Aston Villa shirt with “Rashford” on the back. Marcus Rashford, also reportedly out of favor, responded with a supportive “my brother” message.
Garnacho has reportedly been valued at £60 million, with Amorim reportedly telling the Argentina international to find a new club this summer.
