Uganda Premier League: KCCA’s First Signing, Ssenyondo’s Very Own

The Uganda Premier League transfer window officially opened on Tuesday, July 1, and KCCA FC wasted no time in making a statement.

On the very evening the window opened, the 13-time UPL champions unveiled their first signing, Ivan Ahimbisibwe, who joined the Kasasiro Boys on a two-year contract as a free agent following the expiry of his deal with URA FC.

Ahimbisibwe’s arrival at Lugogo came just days after the club confirmed the appointment of Brian Ssenyondo as co-head coach, working alongside Jackson Magera.

According to reports, one of the major reasons behind Ssenyondo’s hiring was his strong influence in attracting top-tier players, particularly those he has coached and developed throughout his career.

This makes Ahimbisibwe a fitting first signing, he is, in many ways, Ssenyondo’s very own.

The coach previously brought him from Nyamityobora FC to UPDF FC and has publicly praised the striker’s talent and attitude on numerous occasions.

Speaking on NBS Sport’s Premier Sport, Ssenyondo didn’t hide his admiration.

“Ivan is one of the best strikers in Uganda. He’s a very humble player and he conducts himself the proper way, the kind of player you always want to associate with.”

Ahimbisibwe’s numbers back up his coach’s belief. Last season, he finished as the league’s second-highest scorer with 16 goals, just three behind Vipers’ Allan Okello, who took the golden boot with 19.

The striker also recorded two hat-tricks, establishing himself as a consistent threat in front of goal.

For a club that has gone six years without silverware, his signing is being seen as a potential turning point.

But KCCA’s transfer business is far from done.

Reports indicate that two more players, Lazaro Bwambale and Rogers Mugisha, are set to follow Ahimbisibwe to Lugogo, both joining as free agents from Kitara FC.

Bwambale, widely regarded as the best right back in the league, and Mugisha have both previously played under Ssenyondo, making the move a continuation of the coach’s trusted blueprint.

Meanwhile, left-back Herbert Achai is also reportedly on his way back to the club for a second stint after the expiration of his contract with Express FC.

His return is expected to be made official soon.

On the retention front, the club has renewed Brazilian forward Joao Gabriel Esteves Cardoso’s contract for another two years, and more renewals are anticipated.

However, with the incoming faces and restructuring under the new coaching duo, a number of departures are also expected as the club reshapes its squad.

KCCA’s intent is clear: end the trophy drought, restore dominance, and do it with a mix of familiar faces and fresh belief.

With Ahimbisibwe leading the charge and Ssenyondo steering the project, the Kasasiro Boys’ new era is officially underway.
