Lando Norris secured his maiden home victory at the British Grand Prix today, a chaotic and rain-affected race that saw McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri receive a 10-second penalty for erratic driving during a safety car restart.
Norris’s “beautiful” win narrows his championship gap to Piastri to just eight points.
Piastri, who had led much of the race, was penalized after stewards ruled his braking during a restart endangered other drivers.
The incident mirrored a similar controversial call at the Canadian Grand Prix.
Max Verstappen, who started on pole, also spun during the same restart, dropping him to fifth and further dimming his title hopes.
In a historic moment, Nico Hulkenberg secured his first-ever Formula 1 podium finish on his 239th attempt, setting a new record.
The veteran German driver impressively held off Lewis Hamilton to claim third place. An F1 record crowd of 168,000 attended the race, part of a 500,000-strong weekend turnout at Silverstone.
