Uganda Boxing Federation president Moses Muhangi has delivered a no-nonsense warning to local boxers, telling them to get serious or get out if they want a shot at international success.
Speaking at the official weigh-in for the Glove and Glory Boxing Championship at Club Obligato, Muhangi didn’t mince words.
He blasted fighters and officials for being late to events and showing up in casual wear like sandals, saying it’s a clear sign many are not ready for the world stage.
“Boxers and officials have a habit of arriving late, which disrupts our programs. Some even show up poorly dressed, wearing sandals to official events. Yet they claim to dream of becoming world champions. This kind of behavior goes against the new Sports Act, and I will not tolerate it,” Muhangi said.
His comments come ahead of Saturday night’s headline bout between Uganda’s Frank Kiwalabye and Tanzania’s Karim Kisairo.
The two will go head-to-head in a 12-round clash for the WBU Super Bantamweight Title, with Ugandan fans hoping Kiwalabye can make a statement at home.
